Mini Lathe Spindle Lock Upgrade

G'day everyone,

it has been quite a few months since I have made any large modifications to the mini lathe. The 20 or so that I did last years have been working well and have been very useful. One that I have been meaning to do for quite some time is a spindle lock. A lathe spindle lock would be very helpful when cutting threats with a tap and die, since the spindle needs locked in place.

With this lathe there is very little room, and grabbing on to the chuck can be difficult at times, especially after I have been cutting with a coolant or cutting oil.

There are many designs of spindle lock, but the one that I am going with will be a simple ring that clamps on to the spindle to lock it. The ring will be attached to a mounting bracket which I will also make, and that bracket will bolt on to the head stock.

The best way to do this would be to use a CNC router or a CNC mill, but since I don't have an appropriately sized one, I will be doing this using the mill and lathe.
