Jaco Pastorius & Rashied Ali - Naima/Summertime/So What (Live in 1984)

In December of 1984 Jaco and drummer Rashied Ali went to the Caribbean for a series of clinics/duo gigs. This particular gig took place on December the 14th in Martinique, and most of the material was released many years ago on the album entitled "Blackbird" years, but not the three tunes heard here. They are available on the album "Jaco Pastorius Workshop A la Martinique" which for the first time made the complete show available to the public. It was released in 2017 in Japan but I believe you can find it elsewhere as an import. As you can see I've used the album cover as a background photo for this clip. Before drummer Ali met and started doing gigs with Jaco he felt disillusioned about music and was on the verge of quitting it altogether, and has expressed his gratitude to Jaco on multiple occasions for bringing back his joy in music and as a result resurrecting his career. Ali also covered Jaco's tune "Dania" later on one of his solo albums as a tribute. Here's a quote from him regarding the time frame of this recording and what he felt about this mini tour/series of clinics: "In December 1984, Jaco and I formed a duo unit and went on a live tour to the Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe. It was a lot of fun and it went really well. Jaco's playing was great."
