Cecchi Winery, a Tuscan treasure in Winemaking & Sustainability with Oenologist Miria Barcali
Great producers in Italy have many things in common. Here we are unveiling the diverse realm of Cecchi Family Winery. With well over 125 years under their belt, they've created a diverse portfolio of wine and property to showcase not only the incredible terroir but also their wine.
When Luigi Cecchi began his career in wine almost 130 years ago he started as a professional taster & consultant. Getting to know the world of wine long before he became a top winemaker. It was this expertise that enabled him to become an expert in Tuscan wine. It is 100% family-owned with rich history and an eye on innovation.
Today we explore the sustainability and winemaking approaches with another expert, winemaker Miria Barcali. She leads a team of 30 across each and every estate owned by the Cecchi family. Sustainability is a key focus in making great wine for today’s consumers. With over 552 acres of certified organic vineyards, they have implemented water recycling methods at Cecchi, Villa Cerna, and Val Delle Rose estates. These systems allow them to both purify and reuse water, which in Tuscany has become a very important commodity.
Miria Bracali began in chemistry and worked in the winemaking lab at Cecchi, where she avidly grew both her skill set and acumen. She is the Technical Directory and Production Manager for all of Cecchi’s facilities. Today they produce Tuscan red & white wines of Chianti, Chianti Classico, Toscana IGT, Maremma Toscana, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, as well as Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino.
We’ll explore wine from two of their estates as well as their focus on sustainability and making deliciously delightful wine at Cecchi.
