The soil consists of three primary types which each affect the vines differently and leave a distinct uniqueness to wine. From quartz and red clay to fluvial sand and pebbles to Limestone scree.
Vines thrive here in part due to the Mistral winds that blow about 180 days each year, and the Mediterranean climate. It is dry with little rain giving the vines an opportunity to dig deeper for nutrients.
Lirac wines were branded as early as the 18th center when the leaders of Roquemaure would mark their casks with “C.d.R.” Essentially making them the very first to use the term ‘Côtes du Rhône’. While it's right next to Tavel and Chateauneuf du Pape wine country it's prices are affordable and the wine quality is excellent!
