Amazing colour footage of Women under Nazi Rule

In the 12 years that the Third Reich's highly militarized society existed, about 20 million German men, women, and children donned some form of uniform. Hitler was adamantly opposed to women serving in the military and even in the heavy machine industries, but after the rapidly escalating manpower shortages mounted due to battlefield attrition, female members of the population—especially those living in cities—would by the end of the war become an established part of the German workforce.

By 1936, the Hitler Youth had 5.4 million members aged 10 to 18 assimilated into the Nazi organization. The Nazis placed a high priority on the control and conditioning of Germany's children, so the state would replace the traditional family as the dominant force in the upbringing of the country's youth. The female section of the Hitler Youth was called the League of German Girls. Hundreds of thousands of young girls toiled on farms or provided household aid, often 12 hours a day, six days a week, as part of the mandatory youth labour service. Later, they found themselves labouring in war-industry factories, often under Allied bombing.
