Hitler’s Most Powerful Secret Weapon: V-3

You may be familiar with Nazi Germany’s V1 cruise missile and V2 inter continental ballistic missile systems that brought terror to southern England in the last year of the war. Less well known is the third Vengeance weapon—Hitler believed that the V 3 would be more destructive than the previous two.

The project called for the construction of ten shaftes into a hill side. Each shaft would house five extreme range super cannons stacked on top of one another for a total of 50 guns which it was hoped could sustain a firing rate of one shell every 6 seconds, once the complex was fully operational. Ammunition rooms, warhoses, crew accommodation and connecting tunnels would all have to be built underground to protect the complex from aerial bombing. it was calculated that it would take about four months to turn London into an uninhabitable lunar landscape.
