#8 WORST CITY to Buy a House: Portland, Maine

The #8 worst city to buy a house in America is Portland, Maine. Home prices in this previously affordable market have exploded over the last two years and are now leaving local priced out as many transplants from Boston and New York bought up homes during the pandemic.

Portland is now so expensive that the House Payment to Income Ratio is the same as Boston.

So far home prices in Portland have held up strong. But I suspect they could dip in coming years as the locals can't afford it.
