In this new series from OcraMed Health, "Bring On 60", Dr. Joe will share with you his journey as he gets into the best shape of his life for his 60th birthday.

In today's episode, I discuss a common cause of low back pain. Tight hip flexor muscles.

Why do so many people have tight hip flexor muscles? A majority of adults sit A LOT each day. Sitting places your hip flexors in a shortened position. Leaving any muscle in a shortened position for a long period of time (day after day, week after week, month after month) will create tightness in that muscle.

Why do tight hip flexors cause low back pain? Your primary hip flexor muscle, the psoas muscle, attaches directly into the lumbar spine. Therefore when it becomes tight, it directly pulls on our lower backs creating stress and strain.

In today's episode, I demonstrate how to correctly stretch your hip flexor muscles. This should be performed daily to help restore normal elasticity to your hip flexor muscles.

Bring on 60, Episode 18, also includes a discussion on the importance of taking charge of your own health. Of course, I end today's video with my weekly weigh in and physique update.
