Fluid Force on a Surface, Part I (via stress tensor)
Part I: Dr. Morrison shows how we calculate the force on a surface due to a flowing fluid. The starting place includes the pressure and velocity fields obtained from the microscopic momentum balance (Navier-Stokes). We construct the stress tensor from the Newtonian Constitutive Equation. Drag flow is presented as an example in Part I; laminar flow is presented as an example in cylindrical coordinates in Parts II and III. Note this video uses the stress convention of tension positive.
