The Power of Unpredictable Outcomes

You may be familiar with the Butterfly Effect. It's a concept that if you change something in a system—even by just a little bit—you can dramatically change the entire outcome.

The theory was created based on the computer model that was developed to try to understand and predict weather patterns. And there are a lot of similarities between that and the sustainability crisis we face. In both situations we're dealing with complex systems that are global in scale, that are comprised of countless moving parts coming together in ways that are impossible to predict, let alone control.

It doesn't mean that we can't influence them, which is why we want to encourage you to step forward and take action in your own life.

Now it's easy to think that actions you might take in your life, and ones I might take in my own, won't have enough of an impact. But I want to remind you of the Butterfly Effect. Remember, it could be tiny little changes in the system that make all the difference.
