Building Memories in the Brain | Chris Baldassano | TEDxCarnegieLake

How do we learn how to remember? Dr. Chris Baldassano studies the psychology and neuroscience of how experiences are packaged into memories, and why our memories are inescapably tied to our beliefs about the way the world works. Christopher Baldassano is an associate research scholar at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute of Princeton University. He became fascinated by studies of the human brain as a Ph.D. student in computer science, and has pioneered new approaches for applying techniques from artificial intelligence to understand brain activity. His research focuses on how perception and memory work in dynamic, realistic settings, such as watching and remembering television shows and movies. In 2018, he will be starting as an assistant professor of Psychology at Columbia University. He currently lives in his hometown of Maple Glen, PA with his wife and two children. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
