Granolas can be sneaker spikers, foods that are seemingly healthy but that often spike blood sugar. Granolas are also often made with processed seed or vegetable oils.

For example, a serving of Nature’s Path Organic Love Crunch Chocolate Hazelnut Butter has 26 grams of carbohydrates with 7 grams of added sugar. Many of the carbs come from oats, and much of the sugar is in the form of cane sugar. This brand also contains sunflower oil.

In comparison, Paleonola Grain Free Cinnamon Blueberry has 9 grams of carbohydrates with only 2 grams of added sugar. The ingredients come from whole foods. And the 3 grams of fiber, 3 grams of protein, and 14 grams of fat help slow the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream.
