Chordplay - The Chords Of Krokus
Here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Chords Of Krokus. I've had a few requests for some of Krokus' music, and I have to admit it was fun diving into their music deeper than I've ever explored and I learned a few things along the way - as this episode reveals.
Krokus rose to popularity in the early 1980s, but their humble beginning in Switzerland in the mid-1970s was closer to an experimental prog-rock affair, complete with odd time signatures, random key/tempo shifts, and other sonic weirdness in their early music. By the time the 1980s hit, Krokus had a different lineup/sound and was writing music in more of a melodic hard rock direction. This lesson tackles a number of ideas from their 1980s heyday, but also briefly dives into their progressive background from the 1970s.
The chord-focused examples and riffs in this episode include songs such as 'Midnite Maniac,' 'Smelly Nelly,' 'Heatstrokes,' 'Long Stick Goes Boom,' and 'Celebration,' not to mention a small section of the prog song 'Mostsaphin' from their self-titled debut from 1976.
If you're a Krokus fan then you already know what to expect from this episode, but if you're new to this group or just a player searching for some new songs, riffs, and ideas to play around with - this lesson is for you!
