Wanda Landowska, harpsichord
Recorded January 9/11/12, 1939 and March 8/9, 1940
in Studio de la Grande Armee, Studio Albert, Paris
This is from a set recorded by Landowska and first issued on 78s in 1948. Famous, among other things, for the thunder in the background. There are some who suggested that it is anti-aircraft fire, but it is actually thunder since the invasion of France did not commence until two months after the present recording was made, and there are references to confirm that the recording was made during a storm.
