The death toll from Pakistan’s floods since June 2022 has reached more than 800. The South Asian country’s climate change minister Sherry Rehman said on August 24, 2022, that the nation was facing a “climate catastrophe of epic scale”, with three million people affected. Nearly 125,000 homes have been destroyed and 288,000 more damaged, according to the country’s National Disaster Management Authority. Record monsoon rains continued on August 24, and authorities reported over a dozen deaths in the last 24 hours.
