10 Biggest Guard Dogs
Have you ever had an argument with a friend on which animal is better, cats or dogs? If your answer
was the dog, we have to say you'll absolutely love this video. Dogs are man's best friends because of a
lot of reasons, and one of those reasons is that dogs make excellent guards.
In fact, many people have said there's no one as protective and loyal as a big guard dog. And that's true!
In today's video, we'll be checking out the top ten largest guard dogs in existence. Careful, the second
dog on this list is almost as tall as human beings.
#10 Caucasian Shepherd
The Caucasian Shepherd is a huge dog that originates from the ancient Caucasus dogs. This dog was
bred from the huge Caucasus dogs that originate in the Caucasus mountains in the steep regions of
Southern Russia.
As you'd expect for a dog that looks like this, the Caucasian Shepherd is muscular, strongly boned, and
actually really good looking. The dog is also mild tempered— but this mild temper is only for people it is
familiar with. These dogs are one of the most ancient purebred dogs, and the easiest sign of this is in
their teeth. They have teeth so long that very few dogs alive today can even dream to match them.
That's probably one of the reasons they are mostly used in prisons to chase escapees.
And how huge is this dog? Well, try VERY.
Females of this breed can have a minimum weight of ninety-nine pounds and a minimum height of 25
inches. They can even grow up to 28 inches tall and could weigh as much as 105 pounds. Males of this
breed can grow up to thirty inches tall and could even weigh up to a hundred and ten pounds.
This is, without a doubt, one huge dog. But do not be too shocked at the size of the Caucasian Shepherd.
There are nine more dogs that could even grow bigger than it. That's scary and exciting at the same
time!
#9 The Great Pyrenees
First off, when a dog has the word "great" in its name, you know it's not a small dog.
This dog is mostly used as a livestock guardian dog and is extraordinarily large. Males of this specie can
grow up to 130 pounds, and females can weigh up to a hundred and fifteen pounds. They can grow
extremely tall too, and females could get as tall as 31 inches while males could get as tall as 32 inches.
However, this dog isn't just useful to people because of its extraordinary height. It's also confident,
gentle and affectionate. Asides that, it is quite territorial and this enables it to be able to defend its
family or flock. The dog can be strong-willed and is particularly fearless and loyal.

Basically, the Great Pyrenees is everything you want in a dog and a little bit more. It's little wonder the
dog is called the Great Pyrenees.
However, despite being terribly huge, this dog is only the 9th biggest dog we know of. How big, exactly,
are the dogs further up on this list? Let's find out!
#8 Komondor
The Komondor is probably the strangest looking dog on this list. This dog looks like a character from
Scooby-Doo, but surprisingly, that character is not Scooby-Doo! That character is shaggy.
And yes, I said that because the Komondor is probably the most shaggy looking dog you'll ever see.
The Komondor, also known as the Hungarian sheepdog, is a large breed of livestock guardian dog with a
long corded coat that is unlike anything you have ever seen. That's probably why this dog is sometimes
referred to as the mop dog.
In any case, the Komondor is a well-established dog breed and was brought to Europe as early as 1544
by the Cumans. In fact, the dog is so ancient that it has been declared as one of Hungary's national
treasures.
The Komondor, as you'd expect, is an extremely large dog and can reach heights of 32 Inches. It can
weigh up to a hundred and twenty pounds and is a dog that's very suited to the life of sheep herding.
The dog is fiercely independent, fearless and incredibly calm. These traits make it one of the best
livestock guards in the entire world.
#7 Dogue de Bordeaux
The Dogue de Bordeaux obviously sounds like a French dog. And you're right, it is a French dog. It's
specifically a large french mastiff dog and is actually one of the largest and oldest French dog breeds. It's
little wonder that the dog has a totally french name.
However, if you don't want to call the dog the Dogue de Bordeaux (which literally means dog from
Bordeaux),
