It is our Privilege and Honour to have the one and only - Nick Caldwell on our podcast as part of the series: In the Service of Others - Who Dares Wins!

Nick is a former Australian SASR Operator - Team 2IC - Team Specialist and Successful Business Owner.

Having accumulated more than 12years worth of Special Forces experience, it's safe to say that Nick is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to speaking on topics related to this environment and the impact they can have on individuals and relationships in both positive and negative ways.

Coupled with not only a successful career within the SAS - Nick has taken that drive, determination, resilience, integrity and humility into the business world.

Establishing strong partnerships and thriving businesses through his skill and competence as a leader and his uncanny ability to strategically plan and execute effectively.

Although Nick's service has been first class, there was a period of time where things were not so great and this significantly impacted him. He shares his experiences and more in the hopes of positively helping others.

It's apparent that Nick's sincere desire is to leave the Sandy Beret and Winged Dagger in a better position than when he was bestowed with the honour and responsibility of wearing it and he strives to pass on his knowledge, skills and experience to the next generation of warriors to come.

Nick shares his first hand lived experiences in more detail in relation to the Australian SAS Selection process, Cycle of training and his transition out of the unit.

Along the way we have a laugh and call out a couple of funny stories which were well hidden until now lol. At the same time acknowledging some great people who have had a positive impact on our lives through their consistent example and friendship.

During this conversation Nick shares powerful insights into:
What qualities are sought when selecting SF operators.
Memorable experiences during his selection and cycle, and prior to him going on selection and cycle.
Mental strategies and tools he used when under duress.
Identifying and working on weaknesses.
The type of training which will allow for better transfer and application for the work required.
Giving people the benefit of the doubt.
The need and ability to build relationships - plus so much more.

We also discuss a noticeable difference between the NZ and Australian SAS Cycle phase and we hear Nick's reasons and explanation as to why. This was hugely eye opening for Joe hearing Nick speak about this as it was completely different to the NZSAS Cycle environment and it made so much sense (in hindsight) for Joe as to why this is/would be effective.

Not that the NZSAS Cycle is ineffective - that's not the case at all. But perhaps it might be worth exploring...Who knows. We are always looking to improve and make those 1% gains wherever possible...
