K9 Take Down Caught on Camera | La Mesa
1.16.2021 | 3:20 AM | LA MESA - A man is not only hospitalized, but is also facing the bite of reality that he will be facing multiple charges after a vehicle pursuit ended Saturday morning.
A La Mesa officer attempted to stop the male driver of a car for a traffic violation.
The driver fled westbound on El Cajon Blvd running multiple red lights before hopping onto the southbound I-15 to the northbound I-5.
Near the northbound I-5 at Gilman Drive, the CHP used a spike strip. The spikes were successful, however the driver kept going on the rims of his car.
The driver exited onto Del Mar Heights Road and headed east, where a CHP officer did a “Pit Maneuver” approximately 4 times, spinning the suspects’ vehicle each time.
The driver then went wrong way driving, eastbound in the westbound lanes.
The driver finally stopped just west of Carmel Country Rd, where officers kept giving the man commands to surrender.
Shotgun bean bags were fired at the windows of the car.
The driver finally got out but still would not cooperate with the officers’ commands.
A K-9 officer was sent in and the suspect jumped on the roof of the car and then the hood, before attempting to run up the street. The K-9 officer was hot on his tail however, and he did not get very far.
The suspect was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
