Medway River and Mill Village, Nova Scotia

A short, sunny look around Mill Village, Nova Scotia.

Situated in Queens County on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Mill Village sits on the Medway River, about 6km inland from the Atlantic Ocean. Mill Village in days past was a busy industrial community with seemingly limitless lumber and many pulp mills. The lumber supplied busy ship building industries in nearby Port Medway and Liverpool. In 1849 a huge forest fire wiped out much of the available lumber, causing the lumber industry to move into Lunenburg County. Mill Village steadily declined thereafter in both population and activity.

It sits on Old Highway #3, for years a busy, major highway. With the recent construction of Highway 103, almost all traffic now bypasses Mill Village itself, leaving it the quiet, beautiful back-country group of homes that it is today.
