My Experience Going to a Mosque as a Christian
One of my great convictions is that we're called to love those who we disagree with. A little over a year ago, in preparation for teaching a series on different faiths, I found myself sitting across the table from a group of Muslims at a local mosque. During my time at the mosque I was able to hear from these people about what it's like to be a Muslim in the United States, how they experience prejudice, and so much more. Most importantly, we talked about how Christians and Muslims can work together to build a better world.
This wasn't about glossing over our differences. This was about bringing them to the light and loving one another in the midst of them. The love Jesus calls his followers to isn't simply a love of those who look like you, think like you, and believe like you. The love Jesus calls us to is a radical love that sees everyone as neighbor and calls us to love across the lines that we draw in the sand between us.
About me:
Hey! My name is Austin, and I'm a 21 year old guy with a passion for people. I believe the good news is that God is better than we could've ever hoped, and I love sharing this message of grace and love with anyone that will listen. I'm the former Digital Marketing and Video Production Coordinator at a large, evangelical church in Frederick, MD, and I'm currently a student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. When I'm not writing papers or making YouTube videos, I do freelance work as a Wedding Photographer/Videographer and social media consultant. On any given day you can find me with my nose in a book or a guitar in my hands. Want to get to know me more? Follow me and say hi on Instagram at: @austin.suggs
