Two Winter Bushcraft Day Trips | Viking Bushcraft, Shelter Build, Raven Friend, Snow, Venison Jerky
- EYELIGHTS -

- NOTES -
On the first day, after an hour and a half hike into the "Leech Lake" area, I spend an additional hour surveying for a suitable site a short distance off the lake. I'll be using this site in the dead of winter, so it needed to be inland to avoid harsh winds as it gets to around -30C without the windchill. After finding a suitable site out of range of widow-makers, I began to cut spars for the frame. I also gathered a large amount of firewood. There is a small cave behind the shelter where I am storing the wood. It gets dark mid-afternoon, so the workdays are short.
The next day was spent gathering spars and filling in the frame. Because it is so late in the year, I couldn't harvest moss for the walls; when I revisit the site by sledge in the heart of winter, I will be using animal skins to cover the frame.
