Bushcraft Trip (Part I) | Viking Bushcraft, Venison Stew, Solo, No Shelter, Reindeer Skin

- EYELIGHTS -
+ Arrival at the Wayfaring Stay + The swinging of Trunkhammer + A sitting utensil worthy of a Stylite with a fear of heights + Building a meditation stool + The hustling of leaves + Shelterless summer night + Reindeer skin + Handmade clothes + Handmade gear + Norse/Viking/Medieval stuff + Bushcraft + Handmade framepack

- NOTES -
The Wayfaring Stay is located on the shoulder of a long-abandoned wagon road that wanders in its overgrown way through a mixed forest of cedars, birch, and some hardwoods. Criss-crossed by brooks, streams, and low-lying wetlands, the area is enchanted with deer, bear, trout, fox, and rabbit. I will be returning to this lush forest camp from time to time, as I travel from the lakelands to the foothills. I will continue to add to the site as I pass through until it is a highly functional waycamp and repair outpost.

On this passthrough, I am testing a cedar and peg backpack frame that I just made. Would people be interested in a video on how to make one? Upon arrival, after a six-hour walk, I set up the initial camp, including the firepit and cooking area. I also do some minor bushcraft activities, such as build a meditation/peg-stool. I find these handy and comfortable. You can also carry one over long distances, if you wanted to, as they are very light. I cook a typical Norse medieval stew over the fire using dried venison as my chosen meat. I dried the venison, but a bow-hunter friend of mine harvested the meat itself. I traded two repaired Scotch-eyed augers I had repaired for the pounds of white-tail deer meat. At night, all food is hung up due to predators. I take my chances and sleep without shelter but keep the fire fed throughout the night.
