Visiting Carbondale's Number 4 Reservoir

102 | This walk turned out to be much shorter than I thought it would be. The Number 4 reservoir is just east of Carbondale on the side of a mountain. We used to hike to this body of water as kids during the summer, but we would follow a path through the woods from the famous artesian well to the dam that keeps Number 4 filled.

This is the source of the Racket brook, a small stream that runs down through the northern part of Carbondale before joining up with the Lackawanna river. The water from Number 4 though doesn't go directly to the Racket brook. It makes a stop first at another reservoir, the Brownell, where the Racket brook apparently gets it start. Those in the know however realize that the Racket brook actually starts about 400 meters north at the Number 4.
