Italians are extremely warm and affectionate with their friends. Here are a few terms of endearment you can expect to hear around yours.

1) Caro for men or Cara for women - Dear
2) Fratello - Brother
3) Sorella - Sister
4) Bello - Handsome for boys or Bella - Beautiful for girls
5) Amico/Amica del cuore - Best friend (literally, friend of the heart)
6) Migliore Amico/Amica - Best friend

You can also give your friends a nickname based on their personality. For example, your smart friend might be Cervellone (brainiac) (literally, big brain).
Italians also tend to call their friends by their surname or by shortening their first name. For example, Francesco often becomes Franci, Cristina often becomes Cri, and Michela often becomes Michi.
