The Wave Water Park's $15 Million Dollar Question
Vista’s only waterpark (outside of LEGOLAND) is facing some big decisions about its future. 💦
The Wave Waterpark has been a North County staple for decades—my son was just at a birthday party there last week—but now it needs $14–15 million in upgrades to stay open long-term. The Vista City Council has already approved $3.5 million for urgent repairs, but the bigger question is whether private operators should step in to help reduce the nearly $900,000 yearly cost to the city.
Mayor John Franklin says it’s time to hear proposals from outside groups, including the company that runs Belmont Park in Mission Beach. But most councilmembers want to hold off until repairs and possible grants are explored first.
In this video, I’ll break down:
✅ Why the waterpark is so important to Vista and North County
✅ The $15 million price tag and what it covers
✅ The heated debate at City Hall
✅ What’s next for the Wave
What do you think—should Vista keep full control, or let outside groups step in? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

Want me to also write a shorter version of this that hits the highlights quickly for people who skim descriptions?
