Unloading Recycled Pallets

We were offered a load of recycled pallets and we graciously accepted them. Many types of products are shipped on pallets which create a huge supply of pallets that can be recycled. These pallets offer a variety of recycled uses such as, firewood, fencing, signage and furniture.

We do not own a forklift and therefore needed to creatively problem-solve how to unload a transport shipment of about 500 pallets within a few hours.

Luckily, we own a tractor and like most farmers, we were successful in unloading the full load of recycled pallets with only a few tumbles. We were able to borrow portable forks that attached to the bucket on our front-end loader. Used a chain and straps to pull the piles of pallets to the edge of the truck. At this point, the forks could pick up the pile of pallets and unload.

We like to build wood storage boxes out of these recycled boxes. This allows us to then cut up the skids and stack them in these boxes. The supply of cut wood then provides the heat source used to build hot high temperature fires when producing Maple Syrup.
