'Steer clear of China': Pauline Hanson

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson says through the Belt and Road initiative "China ingratiates itself into a country" which is exactly what it's doing to Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.

Victoria has confirmed it will push ahead with its plan to sign up to China's US$1.4 trillion infrastructure program.

China claims the deal will be mutually beneficial, but Beijing maintains the right to seize the asset it has built if the host country cannot pay for it.

Ms Hanson said Mr Andrews "signed the secretive agreement" which will focus on Victoria's expansive infrastructure programme, but it likely to cost the state government $24.5 billion even though it is already in approximately $50 billion debt.

She said given Victoria's existing debt, if the interest rates from the China loans increase and the communist government "don't get their money back" it could "take over the assets".

Senator Hanson told Sky News she "cannot believe what (Mr Andrews) is doing," given how clear it is China wants countries to "be beholden to them".

"People need to steer clear of China".
