Royal Navy Type 42 destroyer propulsion system part 2

Part 2 of a 2 part video describing the propulsions system of the Royal Navy Type 42 destroyers.

In this section we look in detail at the shaftline, gearbox, and controllable pitch propeller systems.

In making this presentation I have made extensive use of notes and photographs that I made during my time on HMS Nottingham over 13 years ago.

If you like engineering, and you want to find Information that is very difficult to find online, you have come to the right place.

The Type 42 Destroyers served in the Royal Navy between 1975 and 2013. During this period they were the backbone of the Royal Navy's medium range anti air capability, but were also widely deployed on general-purpose missions such as area patrol, anti drug operations, and disaster relief.

Part 1 was an introduction to the class, its capabilities, performance, and basic propulsion layout.
