The C major scale is probably the most widely used scale in modern popular music. Initially it makes sense to learn to play it in the sequence C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C. Once memorized it can be played in different ways such as using thirds as in this play along video. It does sound more interesting and musical like that. It's also helpful for improvisation because chords are built with third intervals.
