These are the notes of the C major scale played in ascending and then descending pitch. Each note is followed by the triad chord that is built by using it as the root note and the third and fifth notes counted from the root. The resulting seven chords are C major, D minor, E minor, F major, G major, A minor and B diminished.

You can use this as an exercise to learn the triads in the C major scale and where the root notes in the corresponding chord shapes are. The latter is especially useful when you use the corresponding barre chord shapes.

To exemplify this using the Am chord. Imagine your index finger barres fret 0 and you press down fret 2 on the G string with your ring finger. The root notes are on fret 2 of the G string and fret 0 of the A string. Move up 2 frets and you play a Bm chord, because fret 4 on the G string and 2 on the A string are B notes. Move it up so the index fingers barres fret 7 and the ring presses down fret 9 on the G string. Now you play an E minor chord, because fret 9 on the G string and 7 on the A string are E notes.
