Shebang 1967 –Dance Contest – Shotgun, Jr. Walker & the AS/It Takes Two, Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston

Airdate: April 11, 1967

We go up the road a few miles from Bandstand’s Prospect Studios to another Dick Clark produced dance show where today it’s Motown Day! “Shebang”, hosted by the one-and-only Casey Kasem, was seen weekday afternoons in LA on KTLA from 1965-1968.

Bandstand “Regulars” are everywhere today. In the contest we have Jim Miranda (part of couple #2 and modeling the “Ship n’ Shore” Clothing), and Rick Kline & Sharon Bell (Couple #3). During “It Takes Two” we can see Forest Hutchins (5:14), Famous Hooks (5:19), June Strode (5:53), Rick Kline and Sharon Bell again (6:00), Jenny Nichols (6:10), Buddy Schwimmer (6:18), and Olivia “Liver” Favela (7:14).

“Shotgun” was Junior Walker’s first charted hit. It peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart almost exactly 2 years ago in April 1965 (and a personal favorite of mine).

“It Takes Two” just fell out of the Top 40 about two weeks ago and peaked at #14 last month.
