I am not so much of a hiker, nonetheless, I decided to do this Fossil Rock Hike and trust me it was the best decision I ever made! If I could I would go back to this place in a heartbeat.
If you wish to dip yourselves in Arabian, history, culture and adventure, Fossil Rock Hike is the deal for you. If you're thinking about experiencing the adventures in United Arab Emirates then, embark on this amazing hike at the Fossil Rock, located just an hour away from Dubai. It is located in the Emirate of Sharjah, in a region called Mleiha.
There are couple of ways of exploring the Fossil Rock.
1- You do a self-guided hike, like we did. We had a real challenge of figuring out where to drop off our car, since we dont drive a 4X4. So we practically, spent an evening just looking for a spot, that was safe enough to leave our car for a couple of hours. But if you plan to do a self hike, dont worry. I got you covered. This is a perfectly safe place to drop off your car and go hiking. Hiking the Fossil Rock will take you couple of hours easy. It took us about 60 mins to get to the top. We picked the shorter route, shorter peak, but if you do the longer one, be sure to make time accordingly. You dont want to get stuck after sunset on the rocks. Coming back down is much quicker, but climbing up the dunes could be challenging and time consuming.

2 - The second way to do this is with a guided tour from the Mleiha Archaeological Centre. They have a bunch of tours and trips you can opt for. Everything from horse riding to star gazing to overnight camping and sunset lounges, they have everything. They can arrange a 4x4 or a buggy ride to the Fossil Rock and back. The Tours guides are extremely informative and if you wish to deep dive into the history of Arabia, then I would advise you to go with that. Don't underestimate the adventure with them either. They take you on an awesome Dune Bashing trip too. Here is the link to the center -
