"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." - Well, this also applies to your body producing COLLAGEN!! You can eat/drink all the collagen you want, but what you really want to do is give your body the TOOLS to produce its own collagen. By the end of this video, you will have those tools to do just that! Let's dive in and I'll see you in the COMMENTS!!
How to Boost Collagen Production
1) Amino Acids
Amino acids are a foundation to collagen synthesis in the body - the primary amino acid sequence of collagen is glycine-proline-X or glycine-X-hydroxyproline - the X can be any of the other 17 amino acids, and every third amino acid is glycine
2) Nutrients
Collagen synthesis is very complex and requires an array of nutrients that all work together to build and form collagen
Vitamin C, silica, zinc, copper, manganese and, as mentioned, amino acids (protein) are all necessary for your body to produce collagen
Some examples:
Vitamin C is needed to turn the amino acid proline into hydroxyproline
Zinc is a co-factor for collagen production and activates a protein called collagenase that allows your cells to remodel collagen during wound healing
Copper activates an enzyme called lysyl oxidase that's required for collagen maturation
3) Silica & Hyaluronic Acid
Silica is associated with the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans (polysaccharide) which deals with the support and maintenance of skin and hair structural proteins such as collagen and elastin
Hyaluronic acid retains water to keep your tissues well lubricated
Reduce Exposure to AGEs
Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) are proteins or lipids that get chemically modified by the attachment of sugars. Inside the body, this chemical modification by sugar can both impair the normal healthy function of certain proteins and lipids and bestow upon those proteins or lipids new harmful functions.
They cause the cross-linking collagen proteins, the main structural protein of the body and of blood vessels, impairing the function of blood vessels and trapping oxLDL inside arterial plaques (AGEs bind with collagen, and it’s this binding that causes collagen fibers to become stiff and brittle)
