Family Life at Fish Camp on the Yukon River - Summer 2018 - Stan Zuray

Salmon and other species of fish here migrate well over 1000 miles each summer to spawn. The Yukon River once had numerous fish camps that ran from the mouth to well into Canada full of families cutting a winters supply of fish for countless generations. Elders can still remember those days. While modern commercial overfishing and wild salmon food competition from huge hatchery operations have severely hurt some of these runs and the people and camps that relied on them a significant number of families still raise their kids this way. Here's our camp 2018 style.
