Mixamo is free to use, all you need to use it is an adobe account, which is free to make.

Greetings, in this Mixamo tutorial we shall be looking at how to rig any 3D character using the miuxmao auto rigger, previewing animations, downloading the rigged model of your character with an animation and how to import it all into Unity so you can see your character animate.

This only works on humanoid characters.

Once you log into mixamo, click on the upload character button to upload the character you wish to rig and animate using mixamo. You can upload an obj, fbx or a zip file.

Once your character file has been uploaded one of two things can happen. Your character can be auto rigged without any input from you, if so, you can skip a couple minutes of this mixamo tutorial.

If the other scenario occurs, you will need to firstly orient your character so they are facing the screen. After that you will need to place some markers for where the chin, wrists, elbows, knees and groin are. You can also specify the skeleton level of detail. After that Mixamo will rig your 3D model, so it is ready for some animations.

Now you can select an animation you like, if you want to download an animation with the rigged model. When you are ready to download your mixamo rigged model, click on the download button. I suggest using the fbx format but you can pick what you want.

Once the file has been downloaded you can import it into software of your choice. In this mixamo tutorial we will be looking at how to import the model into unity and getting that 3d character to play the mixamo animation.
