The Advantage of Distraction

What if distraction could be used to your advantage?  

Frustrating states give you fuel to become fed up with giving appearances such significance or importance, because that is exactly where you get caught up. It isn't the appearance itself, nor the discomfort that may arise from it; rather, it is the meaning and significance you give to such appearances that get you involved in their karmic or negative spiral.

If an uncomfortable state appears, such as the state of being restless or distracted, and you give it no meaning, then what does it matter that it is there? You wouldn't be tempted to go on a spiral of, "I don't like this. What can I do to get rid of this state? I can't focus, and this means I'm a mess or this means my spiritual practice is not strong,” etc. You wouldn't be inclined to make the state mean something about you. It would simply be a state, an appearance, like every other thing that appears to you. There are countless things that appear to you that don’t drive you into a negative spiral, simply because you don't have a negative definition about them. 

The reframing of frustrating or less than ideal states is so important. If you could see how any negative state can ACTUALLY be an opportunity for you to become even more aware of who you are, you would be thankful for it. You would pay greater attention to the seeking of who you are, or if you already have a strong sense of that, then you would focus on the recognition and prioritizing of abidance in your true Self. 

In this way, any state that appears that is less than your ideal, is a gift, an offering—a great opportunity for greater freedom, truth, love, and expansion. 

To a seeker of truth, everything is but an opportunity to break free from the illusion of limitations.
