Meryl Streep I Interview I TimesTalks
For almost 40 years, Meryl Streep has portrayed an astonishing array of characters on stage and screen, garnering three Academy Awards for Best Actress and an unsurpassed record of 19 nominations. Her latest film is Stephen Frears’ “Florence Foster Jenkins,” based on the inspiring true story of an eccentric New York heiress who dreamed of becoming an opera singer. “Florence Foster Jenkins,” which opens August 12, is just one of a number of hit films in which Ms. Streep has sung, including “Into the Woods,” for which she earned her 19th Oscar nomination, “Ricki and the Flash,” “Mama Mia,” “Prairie Home Companion” and “Silkwood,” among others. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear her talk about the connection between acting and music with New York Times chief classical music critic Anthony Tommasini.
