How Turkish Gruyere Cheese is Made
Turkish #Gruyere cheese, or locally known as #KarsGravyeri, is an aromatic type of #cheese that is made in the Northeastern #Turkish city called #Kars. Turkish Gruyere cheese is made of milk that is infused with 700 types of plants and flowers endemic to the region. That's what makes its flavor intense and exotic.
#Cheesemaking tradition in Kars started when Russians moved to the town in 1978 after the Ottoman Empire lost the war against Russia. After the foundation of the Turkish Republic in 1923, the region was given back to Turks who settled in Kars and continued the cheesemaking tradition.
#Gruyerecheese is traditionally made in large cauldrons that are as old as a few centuries. Some of these couldrons are made of a mix of gold, silver, and copper. Locals claim that these cauldrons infuse the cheese and make its taste more mellow and delicious.
Gruyere cheese can be consumed both fresh and aged but the taste gets better and better as time passes by. You can pair this cheese with a glass of red wine for a feast of flavor.
