Pigemnted spindle cell nevus Phillip McKee, Antonina Kalmykova, CSD health Care, Eduardo Calonje

Several cases of pigmented spindle cell nevus of Reed are demonstrated and the lesion is compared and contrasted with pigmented Spitz nevus. In short, Reed nevus is a flat lesion and when compound, the dermal component is uniform and has a base parallel with the surface epithelium. It is very uniformly pigmented and composed solely of spindle cells. In contrast, pigmented Spitz nevus often has a wedge-shaped or pyramidal lower border and is only focally pigmented. It is composed of epithelioid cells or a mixture of epithelial and spindle cells. A recent study has shown that NTRK fusions may be found in 57% of Reed nevi which contrasts with Spitz nevi where they are only found in around 16%.
