Balloon cell nevus & melanoma Phillip McKee & Corey Georgesen and Kiko.com

Balloon cell nevus and melanoma are very rare histological variants in which lesional cells (due to melanosome vacuolization) have cytoplasm which is variably granular, bubbly or even clear in appearance. It can be very difficult to distinguish nevus from melanoma. This video shows a number of balloon cell nevi and melanoma with emphasis on the differential diagnosis. The initial was case was very kindly shared with me by Dr. Corey Georgeson, University of Pittsburg and additional cases were shared by Professor Alex Lazar (MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas, USA), Dr. Eduardo Calonje (The Institute of Dermatology London UK), Dr. Silvia Painos Ruas (Anatomia Patológica, Brazil), Dr. Kate Stewart (Australian Clinical Laboratories) and Dr. Diana Szilagyi (County Clinical Hospital, Timisora, Romania). The video is part of a collaboration with Jonhan Ho and Kiko.com.
