Metal Detecting 'Ghost Town Silver' : Garrett GTI-2500: Land Rover Defender
We visit the site of a North Queensland Tin Mining town which existed from the late 1880s until being abandoned in the 1960s. Featured find is a beautiful Sterling Silver 1917 King George V Australian Sixpence coin. In addition we find various historic relics including an antique Victorian bedhead!
At its peak in 1906, the population of the town grew to 222, but had dwindled to just 1 in 1970. The creeks in the area were worked by an Alluvial Tin Bucket Dredge (to feature in an upcoming video) from 1953 until 1971.
