Vultures, revered as sacred in other cultures, but as repulsive in ours, much mystique surrounds these impressive birds.

Ernst Arendt and Hans Schweiger wanted to see these birds of prey for themselves. In 1975 they set off with a heavily loaded VW bus and trailer. In Spain, under dictator Franco, their equipment and film material were confiscated. With cunning and trickery, however, they got their equipment and material back and even obtained the necessary film permits. After a long search, they finally found the ideal griffon vulture nest in the limestone cliffs of the lonely Sierra de Grazalema. The parents lovingly cared for the young, on hot days they even brought water to drink. Griffon vultures are perfect gliders, they check wide areas from the air and scout for food. If a bird has spotted a dead animal, vultures from the whole area soon gather for a battle at the cold buffet.
