Ernst Arendt and Hans Schweiger went in search of clues and spent a summer observing an eider duck breeding colony on Iceland. After courtship, the female ducks prepare a nest and pluck down from their chests. It is a very special material, specially grown to protect eggs and later the ducklings from the harsh Arctic climate.
