The Renovation: Episode 15 // THE CONCRETE SLAB
It's heavy, it's messy, it's hard, it's expensive, it's...CONCRETE! The time is finally here to pour a new concrete slab in the downtown headquarters. The current slab has seen over 100 years of brutal service dealing with 30,000lb machines, gallons of grease, and cutting fluid, and lord knows what else. It was chipped, and cracked and sloped in weird ways so we made the decision to just cover everything!
Here's the math: 3700sq/ft X 4in thick = ~45 cubic yards of concrete, or 6 1/2 concrete trucks. The trucks dumped the concrete into a pump trailer that shot it through a giant hose to the back of the building which was 75ft away from the front door!
This is a giant step in Tay's renovation of this amazing and historic building into Lift Arc Studio's custom fabrication and video production studio, situated right in downtown Roanoke, VA. Once the concrete hardens, we can start framing in the office!
See you next time, thanks for watching.
