Gender Equality Paradox: Why Women Choose More Feminine Jobs in Equal Countries

Women tend to gravitate toward historically feminine occupations more in countries that are passionately gender equal than in countries still obviously oppressed by patriarchy. Most persuasive explanation: in affluent countries with better access to resources, women are free to choose occupation that attracts them rather than one making most money. But if you're in Pakistan and you're woman with intellectual capacity to be good engineer, you may become engineer not because you particularly like engineering, but because job options gonna be much better in Pakistan with engineering degree than anything else.⁣
