5 Things I Bet You DIDN'T KNEW Were Italian

🏦 1. Banks: The first bank in history was founded in Genova in 1149. It was called the Bank of San Giorgio. Italy is also home to the current oldest bank, Monte dei Paschi di Siena.

📅 2. Calendars: Though many civilizations have had their own calendars, the 365-day system we use today was invented by Julius Caesar.

🦷 3. Dentures: People have had trouble with their teeth for millennia. Some of the first Italians, gli Etruschi - Etruscans, invented the first dentures in 700 BC!

🗞️ 4. Newspapers: The first circulating newspaper came from Venice in the 16th century. They were called Gazette, a term that’s still used worldwide today!

🤓 5. Eyeglasses: Eyeglasses are often taken for granted, but if it weren’t for the 13th-century Italian Salvino D’Armati, they may never have been invented.
