Winter feeding has begun (cows)

The winter feeding had begun! Most of the cows are now indoors and are being fed the silage we cut this year and are also getting barley. Forking the silage is a good workout - the 1st workout of the day. I then filled up some bags of feed to take to the cow shed on the other side of the farm. Onto the 2nd workout of the day forking the silage in this cow shed.

I then went back to the yard and filled up some bags of feed and took them out to the cows that are still outside in the fields.

There were some pot holes in the farm road so i filled them with using the Manitou and a shovel. The road is used by the lorries that pick up the eggs so it needs to be kept as smooth as possible!

I then got the Polaris ranger and fed another group of cows that are still outside. Back to the yard to fill up some bags of feed for the calves! I then drove to where the calf feeder is and poured the feed in. I also fed some of the older calves that are in the smallest cow shed we have.

The last job of the day was running the muck belts in the hen shed. I then drove the tractor and trailer with all the muck in it and dumped at the corner of a field so it can rot before being spread next year.

It was then time to head back home in the dark - it's getting dark so early now! It's just as well I have good lights on the quad.
