HEALS ACT -- stands for Health, Economic Assistance, Liability Protection and Schools and it the newest proposal that has been released to further aid everyone during this pandemic.
In this package they have CONFIRMED that there will be a second round of $1200 stimulus checks going out to everyone that got one last time. To be eligible you must earn less than $75,000 a year if you are single and $150,000 if you are married. This time around you will receive $5 less for every $100 you make over $75,000. In addition there will be $500 going to each dependent
They also announced the newest update on the unemployment extension. While they have confirmed that there will be an extension to unemployment, unfortunately it will not be the $600 per week that people are receiving currently. As the proposal stands the $600 will be reduced to $200 per week through September. After that states will begin issuing unemployment at a rate of about 70% of workers' pay before unemployment occurred. The main reason being that the government doesn't want people making MORE money on unemployment than they were when they were working-- trying to incentivize people to get back to work.
The Payment Protection Program is also getting an update. There will be additional funding to further aid businesses. There will be some changes to qualifications however. In order to qualify you must have 300 employees or fewer and have seen revenue drop by 50%. This is the ensure that no one is taking advantage that doesn't need to be.
There are also other detail in the HEALS act such as the Lawsuit Protection which is aimed at shielding businesses, doctors, and schools from being sued as we try to reopen unless it is out of sheer negligence or intentional misconduct.
There will be additional funding going towards school to help them reopen in a manner that will make schools as safe as possible.
In addition there is now a 100% meal deduction for businesses. Currently the deduction is 50% meaning that you can write off 50% of your business meals. Now it will be 100%. This is to help incentivize going to restaurants and helping local restaurants stay afloat during this pandemic.
SO... when will all this take place? Good question.. while no one knows exactly it will most likely need to happen before August 7th as the government is going on recess until September 7th. If it does get passed stimulus checks would be distributed immediately and would likely be arriving much quicker than last time since the government already has our info-- should run more smoothly.
