Community Conversation: The Legacy of the 1968 Kerner Commission Report

The African American Museum and The Sixth Floor Museum cohosted the second Community Conversation on the legacy of the 1968 Kerner Commission Report. The Report was an examination of the civil disorders that occurred in the country from 1965 to 1967 by a Presidential Commission appointed by Lyndon B. Johnson and chaired by Governor Otto J. Kerner of Illinois. The key question for the discussion: what has happened since 1968 when the Kerner Report indicted the police as the main cause of civil disorders and racial violence in the nation’s urban areas? The discussion featured a panel moderated by W. Marvin Dulaney and consisting of John Fullinwider, Classi Nance and James Hawthorne.
