Taking Play Seriously! with Allen Davenport

Play is important! As the quote frequently attributed to Fred Rodgers says, “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.” Play helps children grow, develop life skills, and builds the foundation for a lifetime of learning. This session compares different types of children’s play and discusses how teachers of very young learners can use one specific type, guided play, to direct student learning in the language classroom.
